Is myIQ a scam?
myIQ is a registered business and does deliver an IQ test. However, a large number of users across Reddit, Trustpilot, and consumer forums report being charged without realising they had signed up for a recurring subscription - and the design of their checkout page helps explain why.
On the myIQ payment screen, two buttons appear side by side: one to start the free trial, and one labelled "SKIP free trial". Despite the wording, pressing "SKIP free trial" does not skip the payment - it skips past the trial period and triggers an immediate $29.99 charge. Users who expected to opt out of payment have instead been charged instantly upon pressing it.
This type of interface design - where a button labelled "skip" initiates a charge - is a documented dark pattern. UK and EU regulators have begun taking action against similar practices in the subscription industry. myIQ is not the only company to use this approach, but it is one of the more widely reported examples among IQ test providers.
Cancellation is only available via a chatbot on their help page. There is no cancel option inside the account dashboard. Some users report difficulty locating the bot, which can extend the period they remain charged while trying to resolve it.
